Admitted Student Checklist

First-Year Students
As an incoming student, you have many things that will need to be taken care of prior to the first day of school. Follow these steps to stay organized and ensure a smooth transition into UNLV.

New Admitted Student Checklist
  1. ____ Receive academic advising. Your major determines from which college, school, or department you will receive academic advising. You will receive your academic advising information within two to three weeks after you have received your letter of acceptance to the university. If this amount of time has transpired and you have not yet heard from your academic advising center, please contact your individual advising center.

  2. ____ Submit immunization records to admissions and registrar's, FRA 114. Nevada requires all students to submit proof of having two measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), and one tetanus diphtheria (TD, DT, or ADT — tetanus must have been taken within the past 10 years and there must be 30 days between each MMR dose). Immunization records may be faxed to 702-895-1118. Include name and student ID or Social Security number on all records. Please note: You will be unable to register for courses until all required records are submitted.

  3. ____ Register and pay for courses via the online registration system. Students must receive academic advising and submit complete immunization records prior to registering for courses. For additional information, contact Student Enrollment Services at 702-895-3443. For information about when payments are due and payment options, please visit the Cashier and Student Account's website.

  4. ____ Purchase your student parking permit. Visit the Parking Services site to order your permit online and for additional information, or call UNLV Parking Services at 702-895-1300.

  5. ____ Activate your UNLV student e-mail account (REBELMAIL) to get up-to-date information. UNLV will no longer send your semester bill through postal mail. It will be sent through your Rebelmail account. Your UNLV e-mail account is one of the primary ways you will receive official university communication. Don't miss out on important information about deadlines, major campus events, and announcements.

  6. ____ Obtain your UNLV RebelCard. Your first RebelCard is free and available in the Rebel ID Office located in the Student Union. To receive your card, please bring your class schedule and valid identification. For additional information, visit the RebelCard site or contact the UNLV RebelCard Office at 702-895-2351. Two business days after you register (at least one credit) you are in the RebelCard office database and will then be eligible to receive your Rebel ID.

  7. ____ Purchase textbooks. Once you've registered for courses, you can purchase your textbooks at the UNLV Bookstore. This can normally be done during the first week of August through the first week of school. Be sure to bring a copy of your course schedule with you to assist you with locating your textbooks. You are also able to reserve your books beforehand by visiting the UNLV Bookstore. For additional information, contact the UNLV Bookstore at 702-736-3955.

  8. ____ Attend New Student Orientation. New Student Orientation is a universitywide event held immediately prior to the beginning of each semester. Orientation information will be mailed to you in July, and there is a $120 orientation fee that is included in your first-semester bill. Orientation is a great time to connect with other incoming students, attend workshops, meet representatives from your academic area of interest, and have fun! To R.S.V.P. and for additional information, visit the Orientation website or contact the UNLV University Programs at 702-895-2970.

  9. ____ Placement Tests. Find out what placement tests you need to enroll in your first English, math, foreign language, and chemistry courses.
